What is the difference between I-beam and H-beam?

I-beams and H-beams are two types of structural beams commonly used in construction projects. The main difference between Carbon Steel I Beam and H Beam Steel is their shape and load-bearing capacity. I Shaped Beams are also called universal beams and have a cross-sectional shape similar to the letter "I", while H Shaped Beams are also called wide-flange beams and have a cross-sectional shape similar to the letter "H".

H-beams are generally much heavier than I-beams, which means that they can withstand and support greater forces. This makes it suitable for the construction of bridges and high-rise buildings. I-beams are lighter in weight and are better suited for structures where the weight and forces acting on the walls may cause structural problems. For example, in residential construction, where it is important to minimize the load on the foundation and walls, I-beams may be a better choice.

H Shaped Steel Beams have a thicker center web, which is better able to withstand heavy loads and external forces. They are more suitable for industrial buildings and infrastructure projects. In contrast, I Beams have a thinner center web, which means that they may not be able to withstand as much force as H-beams. Therefore, it is often used in structures where load and force requirements are not strict.

The design of the I-beam allows it to evenly distribute weight along the length of the beam, providing excellent horizontal support for heavy loads. H Carbon Beams are better suited for vertical support and are often used for columns and load-bearing walls. Carbon Steel H Beams have wider flanges, which provide greater stability and load-bearing capacity in the vertical direction.

In terms of cost, I-beams are generally more economical than H-beams because they are simpler to manufacture and have lower material requirements.

When choosing between I beam and H beam, it is important to consider the specific requirements of the project, including load type, span, and structural design. Consulting a structural engineer or construction professional can help determine the best beam for the intended application.
