Differences and application scenarios between hot and cold rolled coils

Hot rolled coil refers to the pressing of billets into the desired thickness of steel at high temperatures (usually above 1000°C). In hot rolling, steel is rolled after being heated to a plastic state, and the surface may be oxidized and rough. Hot rolled coils usually have large dimensional tolerances and low strength and hardness, and are suitable for construction structures, mechanical components in manufacturing, pipes and containers.

The advantage of hot rolled coil is that the production process is simple and the cost is low. Because the steel is rolled at high temperatures, larger sizes of steel can be handled and the production speed is faster. In addition, hot rolled coil is suitable for large-scale building structures and mechanical parts in manufacturing, and its large dimensional tolerances will not affect its use effect. As a result, it is cost-effective and adaptable, making it particularly suitable for structural applications and large-scale projects.

A cold-rolled coil is a product of further processing of a hot-rolled coil, usually rolled at room temperature. Cold-rolled coils have smaller dimensional tolerances and smoother surface quality, as well as higher strength and hardness. It is widely used in applications with high requirements for surface quality and dimensional accuracy, such as home appliances, automotive industry, electronic products and precision manufacturing.

The advantages of cold rolled coils are reflected in their excellent surface quality and higher dimensional accuracy. Through the cold rolling process, cold rolled coils can provide smooth surfaces and smaller dimensional tolerances, while also improving strength and hardness. This makes cold-rolled coil excellent in demanding precision manufacturing and high surface quality applications, and is widely used in home appliances, automobiles, electronic products and other fields to meet stringent performance and appearance requirements.
